Learn how to add students, import a roster, review before import, create roster groups, archive or delete in bulk, set WCPM and accuracy goals, and view individual student progress.
Follow the app setup path.
- 1Get StartedStart here before moving into the workflow tutorials.
- 2Sidebar & WorkspacesUse the sidebar to move between Dashboard, Students, Passages, Reports, Subscription, workspace controls, account settings, support, theme settings, and workspace credit details.
- 3Passages & CollectionsCreate passages with AI or manual entry, import a PDF, photo, CSV, or pasted text, export, print, and organize passages into reusable collections.
- 4Import & PrintingDrop a PDF, photo, CSV, or pasted text onto New Passage Import, review and edit each passage (including already-in-library flags), then print paper copies with running word counts.
- 5Share CollectionsTurn any passage collection into a link. Colleagues preview the passages and copy them into their own library without getting access to your workspace.
- 6Students & GroupsSet up the student side of ReadingFluency.app with one Add Student dialog for adding one or importing many, a review step, roster groups, bulk archive and delete, and student progress history.
- 7Run an AssessmentStart a student read, choose timed or open-ended mode, mark miscues, review AI-assisted scoring, and keep teacher notes with the assessment report.
- 8Live Group SessionsUse live group sessions when students should complete assigned readings from their own devices while the teacher monitors the roster and reviews results.
- 9Reports AnalysisUse Reports to review student fluency trends, group goals, WCPM and accuracy views, distribution charts, percentile bands, ROI, and goal gaps.
Students are the records that connect reading assessments to progress history. Add students before your first classroom round so each result can be assigned immediately.
Add Students and Organize Them with Roster Groups
Add or import students
Adding one student and importing a class share one dialog.
- Go to Students from the sidebar.
- Click Add Student.
- Stay on Add one, enter the student's name, and optionally add roster number, student ID, and tags.
- Click Add Student.
To bring in a whole roster:
- Click the arrow next to Add Student and choose Import students, or open Add Student and switch to Import many.
- Drop a CSV, TSV, or Excel file, or paste a roster from your clipboard.
- Review the rows. Students already on the roster start unchecked and are marked Already on roster.
- Edit names, roster numbers, IDs, or tags if needed, then click Import.
Expected columns: Name, Roster #, Student ID, and Tags. Name is required. Manage Students is for exporting the current roster, not for importing.
Archive, restore, delete, and assign groups in bulk
Select student cards to open a bulk action bar at the bottom of the page.
- Check two or more students.
- Use Add to Groups, Archive, or Delete on the bar.
- Archived students leave the active roster, the dashboard, and the host-session picker, but their assessment history stays. Open the Archived tab at the end of the group strip to restore them.
The same Archive, Restore, and Delete actions are on each student card menu and on the student detail page.
Use roster groups
Roster groups let you group students for intervention, progress monitoring, classroom sections, service groups, or reporting. A student can belong to multiple groups.
- Go to Students.
- Click New Group.
- Name the group, such as "Tier 3 Intensive".
- Select the group chip to filter the roster.
- Open a student card menu and choose Add to Groups to manage membership, or select several students and use Add to Groups on the bulk bar.
Set goals for a roster group
- Select a roster group.
- Click the Edit group button beside the group title.
- Open the Goals tab.
- Enter an optional WCPM goal and accuracy goal.
- Click Save.
These goals appear in Reports when that single roster group is selected.
View an individual student's progress
- Open Students or the Dashboard roster.
- Click a student card.
- Review assessment history, trend charts, notes, and linked reports.
- Use export options when you need a PDF, image, or CSV for meetings or records.
